Shooting completed Saturday night at 8:30 PM, with an hour of pickups Sunday 12:20 - 1:20 PM. Our longest shoot day was last Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 AM the next day (a 21 hour shoot day). The shoot was so smooth, and I was looking forward to a nice celebration at the end, followed by a day of rest before the return to the grind of work.
Being responsible for organizing script, cast, wardrobe, locations, makeup, appliances, general equipment, food, and sound, we were flying by the seat of our pants most of the time. Fortunately we had 32 paid crew members, so things went fairly smoothly. In fact, things went WONDERFULLY smooth; Anything I wanted for this shoot would appear out of thin air. And if we had a problem with something, it turned out for the best, as it would open a door for something better!
After the first day I ditched the 35mm LetaPro adapter when we realized how impossible it'd be to use it, but the footage looks great, and will look amazing after I get it treated during post-production. Thursday night we did the camping scene, followed by the big bar brawl early the next morning, followed by flashback scenes and the entire last act out in rural Pawnee the rest of the night. I got the fire and police departments to come out and help, putting my tax dollars to some real use! The cops got such a kick out of watching us blow up a car.
All in all it was a very stress-free production, save the last-minute shots we needed on Saturday evening, from 7:00-8:30 PM, because we just wanted to be finished so we could get back to the party. Pictures and trailer coming soon.
